Here’s our suggested packing list of essentials for your overlanding trip. Camping equipment is not included. No consideration has been made for special vehicle requirements or weather conditions.

For the vehicle:

• Fire extinguisher
• Jerry cans
• Front and rear recovery points
• Shovel
• Jumper cables
• Drivetrain fluids
• Recovery strap
• Jack
• Tarp
• Tool kit appropriate to vehicle
• Vehicle spares appropriate to vehicle
• Full-size spare tyre
• Spare key, hidden outside vehicle

Other:

• Water
• Solar protection (hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen)
• Appropriate travel clothing
• Identification and copy of vehicle registration
• Cash
• Contact list
• Signal mirro
• Navigation resources (map and compass minimm; GPS with e.g.  Tracks 4 Africa and local guidebooks recommended)
• Flashlight
• First aid kit
